VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF MADISON COUNTY
Construction Volunteers
Are you interested in swinging a hammer, laying tile, landscaping, or painting? Work alongside Habitat partner families and be a part of making decent and affordable housing a reality in their lives.
Lunch Sponsors
Members of this committee work with the Volunteer Coordinator in ensuring that meals are provided for Saturday building days. These volunteers help with delivery of meals, serving meals, and cleaning up after the meal. An excellent ministry for youth groups, high school groups, church groups, Sunday school classes and the like.
Administrative Volunteers at the Build Site
Volunteers are needed on a regular basis to collect waivers and to assist the Volunteer Coordinator with on-site administrative needs.
Lawn Maintenance and Habitat Nursery
Volunteers are needed regularly to keep the lawn around the Habitat Headquarters in good condition. We also will need regular maintenance for the Habitat nursery, which is also now located at the Habitat headquarters on Pratt Avenue. Work days are organized once a month.
Habitat ReStore
Get involved in our Building Supplies or Furniture
ReStore, open Monday through Saturday 9AM-4PM. Volunteers needed to load and unload trucks, organize, etc.
Administrative Support in Office
Help out in our office half a day each week, on a weekday. Our office hours are 8:30AM-4:30PM. Office volunteers are needed on a regular basis to enter data into spreadsheets, answer phones, shred, make copies, and help organize as needed.
Shed Construction
Occasionally volunteers are needed to help build sheds for ReStore customers and for families receiving Habitat Homes. Building a shed is a great way for inexperience construction volunteers to begin to learn! This is also an excellent Youth Group Projects.
Family Services
In addition to construction volunteers, volunteers are needed who have a desire to work hands on with Habitat family partners.
- Financial Education
Qualified volunteers with a willingness to assist families with the financial end of homeownership are desired. These volunteers are needed to aid our family partners in budgeting classes twice a month.
- PAL (Partner Advocate Liaison)
PAL's provide personal support to a family from the time they get accepted into the program until completion of their home. We often refer to these as "mentors" or "encouragers." This requires a longer term commitment of at least six to eight months.
- Family Selection Committee
Develops and maintains a fair, objective, and non-discriminatory selection process for determining which applicants qualify for a Habitat home. Members of the committee review applications, make home visits, and make recommendations to the Board of Directors for approval of those families who qualify for Habitat homes.
- Family Support Committee
Provides support and guidance to the families approved for homes. Maintains relationships with these families after they become Habitat homeowners. This committee works closely with the Construction Committee.
